Shadowbriar School
provides an educational program which offers each student an opportunity to
develop their own strengths and abilities in a supportive, caring
environment. Using individual and group instruction, technology, a
variety of field trips, and other varied learning experiences, we challenge
our students to make the transition from elementary to middle school
students.
Traditional-
The traditional classes at Shadowbriar offer all of our students the opportunity
to cover grade appropriate curriculum as quickly as their abilities and
commitment allow. Our teachers follow the CLEAR curriculum designed by
HISD. They offer both tutorial and enrichment activities to keep all
students actively engaged in their learning.
Multilingual- Bilingual and ESL classes are offered to any students that qualify for the
programs. The focus of these programs is a rapid transition into all English instruction.
Special Education-
Resource and Content Mastery classes and Speech Therapy are offered to
students needing these
services. Please confer with your child's teacher if you feel that your
child may benefit from any of these services. Additionally,
Shadowbriar houses a Life Skills class, a BIC class and a BAC class.
Vanguard/GT- The
Houston Independent School District provides two program options for Gifted and
Talented students. The Vanguard G/T magnet program is designed
to meet the needs of G/T students in grades K-12 by providing an environment for
students to work with their cognitive peers. The Neighborhood G/T
programs (formerly known as SIGHTS) are designed to meet the needs of G/T
students in grades K-12 at their neighborhood (zoned) schools. Both Vanguard G/T
and Neighborhood G/T programs provide a differentiated curriculum by modifying
the depth, complexity, and pacing of the general school program.
HISD's Vanguard and G/T
programs serve students who have been identified as potentially gifted or
talented in intellectual ability, creativity, or leadership. Vanguard and G/T
offers a differentiated curriculum that is both accelerated and enriched.
Students typically study interdisciplinary units that emphasize higher-level
thinking skills, problem-solving, and creativity. The Vanguard and G/T program
requires testing.
